Akwa Ibom's Healthcare Revolution: Gov Eno Unveils Medical City, Creates 2,844 Health Jobs

Governor Umo Eno has unveiled a state-of-the-art Medical City project aimed at transforming healthcare delivery in Akwa Ibom State and reducing medical tourism. The 100-hectare facility, designed to house 62 medical specialties with advanced technology, is expected to position the state as a leading healthcare destination in Nigeria and Africa.

As part of the healthcare expansion drive, the Governor disclosed that 2,844 health workers have been employed since March 2025 to strengthen service delivery across the state. The Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Muhammad Ali Pate, commended the initiative and pledged Federal Government support for the successful completion and operation of the project.

An Akwa Ibom State High Court in Uyo has sentenced a commercial motorcyclist to life imprisonment after finding him guilty of raping a nursing mother at knifepoint following a robbery. The judgment brings to an end an 11-year legal process arising from an incident that occurred in February 2015. Justice Archibong Archibong of the Akwa Ibom State High Court convicted Michael Effiong Japhet on charges of rape and stealing under the Criminal Code Laws of Akwa Ibom State, 2000. According to evidence presented before the court, the victim, a fruit seller, boarded the convict's motorcycle at Ekom Iman Junction in Uyo on February 23, 2015, after concluding her day's business.
