Federal High Court Grants Sowore Fresh ₦200 Million Bail, Sets July 6 for Defence

A Federal High Court in Abuja has granted activist and former presidential candidate, Omoyele Sowore, fresh bail in the sum of ₦200 million following the revocation of his earlier bail over his failure to appear for trial.

Justice Muhammad Umar ruled that Sowore must provide two sureties, one a traditional ruler from his community and the other a property owner within the Federal Capital Territory, and deposit his international passport with the court pending the conclusion of the case.

Sowore, who is facing cybercrime charges instituted by the Department of State Services (DSS) over alleged social media posts, has pleaded not guilty. The court adjourned proceedings to July 6, when he is expected to commence his defence. Following the ruling, Sowore maintained that the bail conditions would not deter his advocacy or activities.
