President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has congratulated the Comptroller-General of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Adewale Adeniyi, on his unanimous re-election as Chairperson of the World Customs Organisation (WCO) Council, describing the development as a significant milestone for both the officer and Nigeria's growing standing in global customs administration.

In a statement issued by the Presidency, President Tinubu said the overwhelming support Adeniyi received during the 147th and 148th Sessions of the WCO Council in Brussels, Belgium, reflects the confidence of the international customs community in his leadership and the progress recorded by the Nigeria Customs Service under his administration.

The President noted that the re-election represents more than a personal achievement, saying it also highlights Nigeria's increasing influence in shaping global customs policies and trade facilitation. He added that the recognition reinforces the country's commitment to strengthening international cooperation in customs administration and border management.

According to President Tinubu, his recent decision to extend Adeniyi's tenure as Comptroller-General was driven by the need to sustain the ongoing reforms within the Nigeria Customs Service. He said the endorsement by member nations of the WCO validates the administration's confidence in Adeniyi's leadership and reform agenda.

The President commended the Customs boss for driving initiatives that have enhanced revenue generation, improved border security, facilitated legitimate trade and modernised customs operations through innovative technology, including the B'Odogwu customs management platform.

He further stated that reforms being implemented within the Service are contributing meaningfully to the Federal Government's broader economic agenda by improving trade efficiency, strengthening institutional capacity and promoting transparency in customs administration.

President Tinubu also praised the Nigeria Customs Service for expanding the Authorised Economic Operator (AEO) Programme, increasing the deployment of non-intrusive cargo inspection technology and strengthening collaboration with other government agencies. He noted that these initiatives have improved operational efficiency while aligning the Service with internationally recognised customs standards.

Expressing confidence in Adeniyi's second term as Chairperson of the WCO Council, the President said Nigeria is well positioned to play a greater role in advancing global customs cooperation, facilitating secure international trade and promoting best practices in customs administration.

He wished the Comptroller-General a successful tenure, expressing optimism that his renewed international mandate would further consolidate the ongoing transformation of the Nigeria Customs Service while supporting Nigeria's economic development objectives under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
