Nigeria is preparing to welcome thousands of public relations professionals, communication experts, policymakers, business leaders, academics, and media practitioners from across the world as it hosts the 2026 World Public Relations Forum (WPRF) in November, a development expected to elevate the country's global profile and stimulate economic activities.

Vice Chairman of the National Planning Committee for the World Public Relations Forum, Mariam Sanusi, described the event as a significant opportunity for Nigeria to reshape global perceptions, strengthen its reputation, and demonstrate its growing influence in the public relations profession.

Speaking during Good Morning Nigeria, a programme on the Nigerian Television Authority (NTA), Sanusi said the forum offers Nigeria a rare chance to tell its own story rather than allowing others to define its image. She noted that while the country has often been associated with negative narratives internationally, the gathering will provide a platform to showcase Nigeria's innovation, creativity, resilience, and professional excellence.

According to her, many of the international delegates expected at the forum have never visited Africa or Nigeria, making the event an important opportunity to present the country's rich culture, hospitality, and capabilities to a global audience.

Sanusi explained that beyond enhancing Nigeria's international reputation, the forum is expected to generate significant economic benefits through increased tourism, hospitality, and business activities. She said the influx of foreign delegates would create opportunities for investment while exposing Nigerian professionals and young people to global best practices, emerging trends, and valuable networking opportunities within the communications industry.

She further disclosed that the planning committee has engaged several state governments to showcase Nigeria's cultural diversity through traditional dance troupes and other performances during the event.

The Transcorp Hilton Abuja will serve as the main venue for the forum, with facilities capable of accommodating approximately 4,000 participants. In addition, organisers plan to establish a vibrant Entertainment Village within the hotel premises, where delegates will experience Nigerian cultural displays, music, arts, and entertainment after the day's conference sessions.

Sanusi expressed optimism that the successful hosting of the World Public Relations Forum will reinforce Nigeria's standing as a preferred destination for international conferences while strengthening global confidence in the country's communication, tourism, and investment potential.

Hosting the 2026 World Public Relations Forum presents Nigeria with more than a professional milestone; it is an opportunity for strategic nation branding. Major international events provide countries with a platform to showcase their culture, investment opportunities, innovation, and hospitality while fostering stronger global partnerships.

If effectively organised, the forum could boost Nigeria's conference tourism industry, attract new investments, create business opportunities for local enterprises, and inspire a new generation of communication professionals. It also reinforces the growing recognition of public relations as a vital tool for shaping national reputation, promoting economic diplomacy, and strengthening international engagement.
