𝙉𝙔𝙎𝘾 𝙐𝙣𝙞𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙢 𝙔𝙚𝙩 𝙩𝙤 𝘽𝙚 𝘿𝙚𝙘𝙞𝙙𝙚𝙙, 𝙈𝙞𝙣𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙚𝙧 𝘾𝙡𝙖𝙧𝙞𝙛𝙞𝙚𝙨 𝘼𝙢𝙞𝙙 𝙍𝙚𝙛𝙤𝙧𝙢 𝘿𝙞𝙨𝙘𝙪𝙨𝙨𝙞𝙤𝙣𝙨

The Minister overseeing the ongoing reform of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has clarified that no decision has been reached regarding the adoption of a new uniform, following widespread media reports triggered by remarks made during a television interview.

According to the Minister, references to Adire and Ankara fabrics during the discussion were merely examples of some of the proposals submitted during the ongoing consultation process. He stressed that these comments should not be interpreted as an official announcement or approval of any new fabric to replace the existing NYSC uniform.

He explained that the reform committee is carefully evaluating various options based on key considerations, including professional appearance, the promotion of a distinct national identity, durability, practicality, affordability and the ability of the uniform to reflect national pride. He reiterated that no final decision has been taken on either the fabric or the design.

The Minister further assured Nigerians that any eventual decision regarding the NYSC uniform will emerge from broad stakeholder consultations and will be guided solely by what best serves the interests of the Scheme and the nation.

Beyond the debate over the uniform, he urged the public to focus on the broader objectives of the ongoing NYSC reforms. He noted that the reform agenda is designed to make the Scheme more responsive to contemporary realities by improving the employability of corps members, encouraging entrepreneurship, strengthening national unity, enhancing service delivery and ensuring a smoother transition from education to meaningful careers.

He expressed appreciation for the constructive feedback received from Nigerians and reaffirmed the government's commitment to carefully evaluating every proposal in the overall interest of the country.
